Johor Bahru, November 6, 2024 – Johor Port Bhd, part of the MMC Group, has been honored with the Green Port Award System 2024 (GPAS 2024 Award) for its dedication to environmentally sustainable and innovative port operations. This esteemed award, backed by the APEC Port Services Network (APSN) Council, recognizes Johor Port’s leadership in advancing green logistics within the region.
The GPAS Evaluation Committee, following strict criteria set by the GPAS-2020 Implementation Plan and the Guide to GPAS Expert Evaluation, selected Johor Port for its exceptional green initiatives. These efforts reflect the port’s commitment to global standards in sustainable maritime logistics.
The award was presented by Malaysia Marine Department Director-General Dickson Dollah during the APSN Forum on Green Shipping Corridors, held on October 24-25, 2024, at Le Meridien Hotel in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. This forum brought together key players in the maritime and logistics sectors to discuss sustainable practices in shipping and port operations.
Johor Port has developed a holistic green strategy emphasizing energy efficiency, the use of renewable energy, air quality monitoring, waste management, sustainable water use, electrification of port equipment, and eco-friendly landscaping. These initiatives align with Malaysia’s green innovation goals and the global maritime industry’s objectives for environmental responsibility.
